GUIDELINES FOR GRANT APPLICANTS

The Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg Foundation Inc. (the "Foundation") is a public non- profit charitable corporation created for the purpose of serving and appreciably enriching the lives of children and disadvantaged adults living in Winnipeg~ Presently, emphasis is placed upon matters of health, education, and social development as well as Cancer research.

The Foundation is a Registered Public Charitable Foundation under The Income Tax Act and is required to disburse its funds only to qualified donees.  Generally, this means that contributions shall be made only to other registered charities.  Recently, the average grant made to successful applicants was in the amount of $5,000.00.

The Foundation does not provide standardized forms of application. It is preferred that each applicant for a grant should present a request in its own written form, which must include the following information*:

  1. Its full name, postal address and telephone number;
  2. Its registration number under The Income Tax Act;
  3. The names and addresses of all officers and directors;
  4. A copy of the most recent balance sheet, financial statements and current budget with identification of its present sources of income;
  5. A brief description of its present activities and objectives;
  6. A detailed description of the project that is the subject of the application including estimated costs, sources of funds and anticipated benefits both to those participating directly and to the community;
  7. A proposal for reporting to the Foundation on the use of funds in the development of the project and on the benefits derived after completion of the project;
  1. The opportunity for public recognition of the contribution if granted.

It should be noted that the present policy of the Foundation is to decline to consider applications for grants:

(a) To individuals; *

{b) To national or large campaigns;

(c) In reduction of existing deficits of the recipient whether operating or capital;

(d) To contribute to the costs of operations or maintenance of an organization;

(e) To publish the reports of research projects or studies, or

(f) To contribute to the cost of seminars, workshops, conferences and informational tours.

* The foregoing guidelines are not relevant to the Organ Transplant Fund, which is administered by    the Foundation as a specially designated account.
